KATADATA - To safeguard the maritime sovereignty of Indonesia, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has sunk hundreds of illegal fishing boats. Since October 2014, as many as 152 illegal vessels have been sunk. As well as acting as a deterrent, this policy aims to control global production, increase the catch of local fishers, and help establish Indonesia as a global maritime power. After all, Indonesia is known as the world’s fishing paradise.
